How a typical third-party processor works

This is a typical
example of how a third-party processor works. Please note that the exact setup will vary
between services.
1. Set up your account with
the third-party processor by filling in a form on their website. You'll be given a digital
ID that is used by the third-party processor
to identify you and your products.
2. Set up the information
about your products (name, price, etc.) via the third-party processor's website. You'll be
given instructions on how to set up the sales link on your website.
3. Place the sales link on
your web page. You can place the sales link as many times as you like on any or all of the
pages of your website. You can also place the link in e-mail messages, e-books, and so on.
4. Your visitor clicks the
sales link to order the product and is taken to a secure server operated by the
third-party processor.
5. In the secure payment area, your
visitors enter their personal and credit-card details in the usual manner.
6. Once the visitor's
credit-card has been approved, the third-party processor transfers the sales value of your
product from the visitor's credit-card account to their own bank account.
7. Your visitor is then
directed to your 'Thank You' page where your e-book is available for download. In the
visitor's next credit-card statement the transaction will be listed using the name of the
third-party processor (because it's they who have sold the product).
8. Both you and your customer
will receive an e-mail detailing the sale. The details of the sale will also be added to
your online sales reports available on the third-party processor's website.
9. Within a certain time (it
varies) the funds from the sale (and any others within that time-frame), minus the
third-party processor's transaction fees, will be transferred to your bank account or sent
to you by check.
