The Story of the
$800 Support Issue by Michael Hopkins
A few months ago I paid $20 for an ebook
that caught my attention. Unfortunately, after completing the payment, my PC crashed
before I got to access the download page.
No big deal.
I re-booted, went back to the site, clicked the 'Contact' link and
wrote a short message to the author of the ebook explaining the situation.
HOWEVER...
While writing the email, I was thinking about how similar the
author's target market was to my own target market. I decided that I would have to contact
him 'some day soon' with a joint venture (JV) proposal that would bring in a few extra
sales for me -- and a few extra dollars for him.
BUT HANG ON...
I'm already in touch with the guy right now!
Why not just include my JV proposal directly inside this
email now that I've got his attention?
And that's exactly what I did.
Once I had got my support issue out of the way, I added a few
pargaraphs to the end of the email.
This is the general gist of what I wrote (feel free to use this
text if you wish)...
Hi [NAME],
[SUPPORT ISSUE / QUESTION]
By the way, while I've got your attention,
perhaps you'd like to download a complimentary copy of [PRODUCT NAME] which sells over at:

Within an hour of sending that email, the author replied to my
support issue AND he agreed to run a mailing to his list for my product.
NOW GET THIS...
He sent the mailing a few days later and he delivered over 40
sales for my $47 product. Net result: we both made over $800 in profits!
In fact, the idea was so successful that I've been using it ever
since. I must confess that I've even visited some sites and fabricated a support
question just to get my foot in the door :-)
So far, I haven't had any single mailing that's brought in as many
sales as the first one, BUT I've had a considerable number of smaller successes.
All in all, I estimate that this technique has resulted in about
$5,000 in extra sales in the past 3 months.
Not bad considering it costs zero dollars and
takes practically zero time to implement! (I've got the text ready to
copy/paste into my support emails whenever I need it).
By the way, this idea can be used for other things besides just
making sales. For example, you could use it to exchange links, exchange ezine ads,
exchange services, get testimonials and so on.
So why not give it a spin and see how it works for you? After all,
you've really got absolutely nothing to lose.
All the best.
